Almost sunset, never got the beautiful light on the clouds that we were hoping for but the light in the canyon was still gorgeous! The White Rim Road below is a 100 mile long trail that is very popular with bicyclists. The road leaves the river and climbs to the Island in the Sky.
I have always loved looking at rock art but until this week I had never considered the rocks around them as part of the art. Now that I have taken a step back to look at the space I see a beauty in the setting I really resonate with and the glyphs become a part of the scene.
In the Canyonlands there are many dead trees that tell stories. It looked to me like this one was a dancer and I had been singing "Waltzing Matilda" for some reason so I named this tree after the song.
One of the rewards for standing in gale force winds, freezing and holding onto the tripod for dear life is a beautiful sunset, and in this case a panoramic one!
In the afternoon we headed over to the Canyonlands, in the Needles, and played around with some little spots tucked in out of the wind. It was picking up after having died down a bit later in the morning. I was happy to be laying down out of the wind in this little cove playing with the small light shaft and sweeping lines of stone layers.
